Currently on its North American tour, the Broadway musical, Wicked, is returning to the Detroit Opera House.
Based upon the best-selling novel, Wicked: The Live and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire, the musical takes places in the land of Oz before Dorothy and Toto. Wicked details the story of Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West and her relationship with Glinda, the Good Witch of the North.
The musical made its debut on Broadway in 2003 and has become a favorite among patrons. The music and lyrics are provided by Academy Award winner Stephen Schwartz. Based upon the demand for this muscial, there are currently productions in Chicago, Los Angeles, London's West End, Tokyo, Australia and Stuttgart, with two American tours that will make stops in 30 American and Canadian cities. Wicked has been nominated for 10 Tony Awards and has won 6 Drama Desk Awards.
Tickets go on sale August 10. Premium tickets will also be available. There will be a special on-sale event at 12 Oaks Mall starting at 9:00
a.m. -- providing an opportunity to purchase tickets two hours in advance
for the best seats available.
