Will Ford Sell Volvo, Mercury?
May 2, 2008
Automotive & Business

An aide to Ford Motor Company investor Kirk Kerkorian says the Dearborn-based automaker should sell Volvo and Mercury.

WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter has more….

Billionaire Kerkorian recently acquired a nearly five percent stake in Ford…and appears ready to make an offer for up to 20 million more shares in the company.

But Kerkorian aide Jerry York reportedly says there is little reason to keep the Mercury and Volvo brands in the Ford family…if the company’s turnaround plan is to succeed.

York predicts Ford will put Volvo on the market before the end of 2009.

Ford officials…however…say Volvo is not for sale…and that the automaker is investing in Mercury.

But officials add that Ford continues to reevaluate the  performance of all its various brands.
