McCain Tells Oakland University Troops Will Come Home At Right Time
May 7, 2008
General

Republican presidential candidate John McCain says the U-S must continue to fight both economic woes…AND the war in Iraq.

McCain spoke today (Wed.) during a town hall meeting at Oakland University in Rochester.

Detroit Public Radio’s Quinn Klinefelter has more…

McCain echoed the call Democrat Barack Obama made in Detroit nearly a year ago – that automakers must embrace higher fuel standards and recast factories to produce more green technology…if the state is to revive its struggling economy.

But McCain drew a clear distinction between himself and Obama over the war in Iraq – noting it’s not just the cost in treasure  that troubles the public…but the cost in blood.

“It’s American casualties. And as the Iraqi military takes over more and more of the responsibilities and Americans withdraw…then I’ll bring ’em home. I’ll bring ‘em home. But I’ll bring ‘em home with honor. And I won’t bring ‘em home in defeat.” (applause fades)

About a dozen protestors outside the pavilion where the Arizona Senator spoke chanted that a McCain presidency would mean more war…and fewer jobs.
