WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter has more…
Members of Congress are prohibited from attending events sponsored by corporations who lobby Congress.
Yet such corporations apparently backed a Caribbean conference in 2008 that was attended by several members of the Congressional Black Caucus…including Michigan Democrat Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick.
The Congresswoman says the trip was approved by an ethics panel.
And in fact the House Ethics Committee found that Kilpatrick did nothing wrong in attending the conference…except that she must pay for the expenses involved.
But the Ethics Committee IS admonishing Congressman Charles Rangel…who says his staff did not inform him that the Caribbean conference was sponsored by some corporations that actively lobby Congress.
